Why Homeschool?
Only You Can Decide

Why homeschool? This is the elemental question for all parents and caregivers who are considering this alternative to a traditional or public school education.

Homeschooling

In reality, only you can decide why homeschooling might be right—or if in fact it is at all in your case. More often than not people considering this question already know their own answer; homeschooling is an instinctive choice for most who have a serious interest in it, and they are simply looking for the proof to back their choice (and perhaps a little friendly homeschool encouragement).

That is not to say that choosing to homeschool should be taken lightly, but it is to say that that "gut feeling" should definitely count for something. After all, you are the one best-poised to know your child or children, and make the right choices for their education, development, and indeed, their life's foundation.

Analyzing Reasons To Homeschool

There is no shortage of reasons to homeschool; but in order to make a good, well-founded decision you need to get the facts about homeschools and homeschooling. You will want to start off with the benefits of homeschool, but also give due regard to the disadvantages of homeschool. Homeschooling is not a good "fit" for everyone, and the reasons why we homeschool may just not be suitable for you and yours.

As you consider the pros and cons of homeschooling, though, be sure to go beyond homeschool basic benefits and really get the facts—you want to be totally secure in your decision, and for that you need to look at the issue thoroughly and objectively, in realistic terms for your life.

Learn All About Homeschool

As you make your decisions, you also need to learn all about homeschool; not just the reasons for it, but the many schools of thought and curriculum (yes, even herein there are many differing schools of thought). For example, will yours be a secular homeschool basis or more of a Christian homeschool curriculum? This is only the tip of the iceberg; there are a number of decisions to be evaluated and made before you can settle upon the ideal homeschool life for you and your children.

So why homeschool? It's a question only you can answer for you and yours, but it is also one that is not short on support and opinions. The homeschooling community, even given its great diversity, is one that is very supportive. You'll find no shortage of opinions, helpful advice, and resources to help you as you find your own answer to this very important question.
