Education is one of the most important legacies you can leave to your
child, and preschool-curriculum is the beginning of the formal
education.
If you decide to educate your child at home, each
decision bears greatly on this legacy. Homeschooling brings about great
benefits, and bringing about these benefits will require building a
strong homeschool curriculum.
A curriculum is the material to be used in teaching your child. A
preschool-curriculum may include teaching basic shapes and the alphabet.
There are a number of ways to teach these concepts, and one way to do it
is the homeschool method. |
A good preschool homeschool curriculum starts with good research.
If you are a homeschooling novice, read up on teaching strategies and
learning styles. After you’ve got that covered, you need to decide
whether you want to pull together your own preschool homeschool
curriculum or get one that’s been assembled and ready to go.
If you want to build your own curriculum, know and have ready, the
legal requirements specified by your local education system. From
those set of requirements, you can build a homeschool
preschool-curriculum that’s customized to your child’s interests. On the
other hand, you can also buy an assembled or packaged preschool
curriculum for homeschool. A packaged curriculum saves you time in terms
of preparation, letting you devote more time to actual teaching (which
is already hard enough).
There is growing evidence that educating children at a very early age
may lead to learning fatigue, making them less enthusiastic about
learning and less able to exercise creativity. Exchanging formal
preschool education with a more diverse and less structured series of
experiences will work to your child’s advantage. It doesn’t take complex
activities to give your preschooler a great homeschool experience. Take
your daily routines and turn them into fully-involved communication
exercises. At the grocery, ask about the colors of fruits and the shapes
of jars. Involving ordinary routines in the learning experience help
build vocabulary in a context that is very real to your child.
Exercising the mind is not enough; you must also address your
preschooler’s physical activity needs. Pay close attention to your
child’s motor skills and exercise them with indoor play activities such
as clay sculpting or coloring. For outdoor activities, get your child
climbing, jogging or playing ball.
Your preschooler’s homeschool curriculum will require a lot of
research on your part, specifically in early childhood development.
Most important, you must make time to get to know your child better.
Knowing what your child loves allows you to use these interests to sneak
in a lesson or two. Time is the biggest investment towards giving your
child a legacy that truly lasts. Additional Resources for preschool-curriculum.
