You cannot entirely avoid the need for homeschool discipline. Children act out, test boundaries, and make mistakes. These are just a few ways to create an environment that helps to make these occurrences as rare as possible. Drawing The LineWhen you operate in a homeschool environment, you have to draw the line between home life and school life. When both lives happen in the same building, it is easy to forget to make this distinction. Making this distinction, however, is important because you are separating work and play. When the rules of work and play run together, then the rules of playtime take over in the homeschool setting. There are several ways to draw this line. You have to create a professional atmosphere. One way is to have special homeschool apparel. When children must dress differently for school then they realize that this is a different situation. It helps to start defining the boundary. Doing Your PartThis part is a bit trickier. You have to create a separation between your role as a teacher inside the classroom and the roles that you take on outside of it. Expectations of a student within the classroom during school hours must be clear and must be adhered to.Without clear boundaries and spelled out expectations, how will they work? How can a child maintain appropriate behavior if appropriate what qualifies as appropriate behaviour remains unclear? They cannot. Children must know without a doubt what is acceptable in the classroom and what is not. Your teaching persona should be different from your persona in the rest of life. You are both moving from home life to school life. Act as though you were in a regular school setting to obtain the desired results. Homeschool discipline is a necessary part of homeschooling. Clear lines drawn between home life and school life, however, can cut down on the need for this discipline.
