Gifts to and from homeschoolers

When you see this topic it could encompass many different areas.  Are we talking about a person's individual gifting or are we talking about a gift they would you give another? We would like to talk about both.

First, we all know that our children have a variety of giftings. One benefit of homeschooling is our ability to help our children discover and foster those gifts. Does your child spend the day doodling? See if they would like to learn more about art. Maybe your child is always telling wild stories. You can encourage them in writing. It's important not to forget to teach the basics, but equally important not to focus so much on the basics and we forget to pursue our children's giftings.

Second, we can encourage our students to use their individual gifts to give to others. For that doodling child, have them draw pictures will make ornaments as Christmas gifts for loved ones. For the one who likes to write stories encourage them to write a Christmas letter or sent notes to love once. For the one who likes gift box constructing there are a few samples of nice ones.   Maybe you could use both areas and teach your children calligraphy. There are many inexpensive, kits that you can use to do in this.

And what about your giftings? Teach your children some of the things that you enjoy doing and your passions can be contagious. Whether your love is crocheting or computer design, let your children into the world of your gifts to explode with you.
100 years ago children learned from their parents. They learned how to take care of farm animals, or vocational skills from their parents. Girls learned how to cook from their moms. Today we go to the grocery and buy microwave dinners. Many of these skills are lost. And with it the opportunity to spend quality time with our children and pass the legacy forward.

Begin to look at gifts, yours and those of your children, as a way to build a bridge between the generations and to enhance your homeschool.
