The difficulty with getting into a home school friendly college is there is not technically a high school graduation diploma that one gets.  Even after the tests are finished and all of the correct courses have been passed, it is not considered a traditional method of receiving a diploma in order to move forward.  Because home school kids don't have this test of admission, it makes it more difficult to get into the right school and to be considered for furthering education.

In order to balance this out, colleges have created what is known as open – admission schools.  Each of the colleges that are a part of this will go through specific tests in order to qualify home schoolers and will have specific applications that can be used by children that don't go through the traditional method of receiving a diploma.  This allows everyone the opportunity to pick from certain schools and to have the right materials in place for acceptance.

With open – admission schools, the person that applies will have to go through certain standard procedures in order to be accepted.  There will be substitute materials that will need to be prepared in order to get into the door of the schools.  This will include things such as portfolios of work, a personal essay, SAT I and ACT test scores, grades from community colleges and personal recommendations.  If the home school student has also been a part of extracurricular activities or other outside activities, they may also be considered.  It is important to make sure that you begin to put together these portfolios in order to prepare for possible college admissions.

While most colleges are open to consider home school kids, there are also extra loops that have to be taken in order to ensure that the kids can safely be admitted.  Knowing what to prepare to get into the different colleges is the main step that needs to be taken for acceptance into a college.  By showing that you are competent, can handle college level work and are organized with what you offer, there will be the capability to have the necessary doors open to you for career options.
