Learn more about Abeka as a complete curriculum choice

 Complete Curriculum's and Abeka

When I started homeschooling the idea of spending as much as $500 or more per child each year was simply overwhelming. That was about what we made a week and we had three children at the time. I decided I’d do it myself.
After two years of worrying whether or not my daughter was performing up to level, creating tests and writing lesson plans I’d had enough.
I decided to try a complete curriculum package of some sort.  I chose A Beka’s full year curriculum. My brother had used A Beka as a child in a private Christian school and I remembered he really liked the books. So we tried it the first year that we had two homeschooling, and I loved it.

The thing I really like about ABeka is the way the entire school day is integrated. If you learn about Noah’s ark in Bible then you will add animals in Math class, you read about animals in reading, write about them in penmanship learn about their habitat in science. By the end of the day my kids feel as if everything was relevant. This has continued on to one level or another throughout elementary school. My oldest will be in fifth grade this year and she continues to look forward to the next year’s reading books. Each lesson, each year build upon each other.

And for a homeschooling mom the design of the curriculum is an absolute dream. Not only are lesson plans in Abeka clearly laid out but they give you the approximate amount of time that will be needed for each assignment which makes homeschooling multiple grades even easier.

The reading is broken to three levels so a homeschool parent can easily adjust to accommodate the needs of their child. It is not at all a “cookie-cutter” solution but rather a program that is easily customizable.

Finally, the curriculum offers valuable homeschool helps for parents working with multiple grades, as most homeschoolers do. It shows you how to schedule teaching around times when another student is working on seatwork. They lay out a plan for a 3 student household that allows the homeschooling mom or dad a clear plan to homeschool three children and only spend about 6 hours homeschooling. That was never possible for me when I was trying to do it myself.

Complete Curriculums aren’t for everyone, but for those who do desire the whole curriculum package, personally I find that ABeka is very homeschool family friendly.
